Lock won't latch or catch
The handle moves but the door never truly locks. Usually a worn mortise lock, a bent latch hook, or a sagging panel that no longer lines up with the strike plate.

Why sliding door locks fail
A sliding door lock only works when three things line up: the latch, the strike plate and the panel itself. When rollers wear out, the panel drops a few millimeters and the latch starts missing the strike — so the lock feels broken even when it isn't. That's why we always check panel height and alignment before quoting a lock replacement.
When the hardware really is worn — corroded cylinders, cracked handles, mortise locks that no longer throw — we replace it with parts matched to your door's brand and profile, most of which we carry on the truck.

Common lock problems we fix
The handle moves but the door never truly locks. Usually a worn mortise lock, a bent latch hook, or a sagging panel that no longer lines up with the strike plate.
Handles crack, pull loose from the panel, or spin without engaging. We replace the full handle set — interior and exterior — matched to your door's profile and finish.
Exterior keyed cylinders corrode fast in South Florida humidity and salt air. We replace the cylinder or the full keyed handle set so the door locks from outside again.
Many older sliders can be lifted straight off the rail from outside — a real security gap. An anti-lift kit plus a properly adjusted lock closes it.
If the panel has dropped even a few millimeters, the latch misses the strike. We re-level the panel and adjust the strike so the lock engages with a clean click.
Foot bolts, security bars and child locks add a second layer beyond the standard latch — popular for ground-floor patios and families with small kids.
Beyond the standard latch
The factory latch on most sliding glass doors is the weakest lock in the house. While we're replacing or repairing your lock, we can add a second layer of security in the same visit:
