Sliding Screen Door: Does It Need Mesh, Rollers or Frame Repair?

New mesh will not fix worn screen wheels. Check which part of the screen is failing before requesting rescreening.

Need it fixed instead? See our sliding screen door repair service, or use our free estimate form. Standard repairs run $99–$375 per panel; impact doors need a free onsite estimate.

Mesh damage and rough movement are different jobs

A hole or tear with an otherwise straight, smoothly moving screen can point to rescreening. A screen that rubs, drops or catches can involve its wheels, adjustment or rail. A bowed or damaged frame can affect both movement and how the mesh is held. These are observations, not proof that one specific part has failed.

Describe the screen separately from the glass door. If the glass panel glides but the screen does not, replacing the main door's rollers is not the obvious answer. Screen wheels belong to the screen assembly and are different from the load-bearing rollers under the glass panel.

What can be observed safely

Look at accessible mesh, frame corners and the screen's position without forcing it past a catch. Do not pull an unfamiliar screen out of the opening or assume that its wheels adjust like the main door. Stop if the screen is loose or could fall from a balcony.

Milgard's patio screen and lock guide describes wheels and adjustments for its screen systems. Use instructions that actually apply to your model; this is not a guide to lifting a glass panel.

Repair scope and mesh choice

We assess frame condition, wheel operation, travel and mesh before recommending rescreening or hardware work. Standard and pet-resistant mesh options have different purposes; mesh choice alone cannot correct a bent frame or rail problem. Screen size, parts and condition affect its own estimate.

See real work on our sliding screen repair page. For Hollywood or Dania Beach, mention whether the screen, glass panel or both need attention. The standard glass-door hardware range below is not an automatic quote for every screen job.

What it costs: $99–$375 per panel for standard repairs

On a standard residential sliding glass door, our repairs run $99–$375 per panel depending on the parts and labor involved. The estimate is free and you get the price before any work starts.

Impact doors need an on-site estimate

Impact-rated (hurricane) sliding doors are a different job. The panels are much heavier because of the laminated glass, the rollers and tracks are often brand-specific, and the frames are built to strict Florida code. Two impact doors that look the same can need very different parts and labor.

That's why we don't quote impact doors over the phone. We come out, look at the door, check the brand, the panel weight, the track and the rollers, and then give you an exact price. The on-site estimate is free.
